Over thirty years experience of Instrumentation Engineering and Project Management in both the power generation and petro-chemical industries, using analogue and digital techniques for process control, monitoring, data logging and progress planning. Design, construction, installation, commissioning and maintenance of turbine and boiler control systems, offshore analysers, metering, ESD, fire and gas, and hydraulic wellhead controls. Performed control and shutdown system audits and reliability analysis of new and existing ESD systems.

18 years in the Oil and Gas, Petro-chemical & Power Plant Industries in all aspects of  Electrical/Instrument systems. This includes a 4 year Apprenticeship and 14 years      on/offshore, on various Oil & Gas facilities in the North sea and Overseas.

Over the years including my apprenticeship I have gained a sound knowledge pertaining to all aspects of Instrumentation. I have also gained experience in the management field of instrumentation i.e. Engineer, supervisor and trainer. My sound knowledge skills have been gained by working in Petro-chemical plants, Construction departments and  Oil & Gas production / Refining plants which have all been either offshore based, onshore based or overseas. I have worked on most types of instrumentation and control systems including Allen-Bradley, Texas , TDC and Scada based systems. I am fully computer competent with a sound knowledge of most windows based tools and some CAD packages.

Experienced in Instrument maintenance engineering to include Micro-Processor based equipment, PLC maintenance and programming. Electronic and Pneumatic instrument maintenance ( flow, pressure, level and temperature ). Instrument Installation and commissioning. Calibration of instruments and instrument systems to Fiscal Standards. General and specialized instrument  maintenance to include DCS. systems and switching, Fire and Gas protection systems, ESD maintenance, Water deluge and sprinkler systems, Valve and valve positioner maintenance, Vibration sensor maintenance, Multi function valve control and sequencing systems, analytical systems to include chlorination plants, acid dosing plants, pH monitoring and control, Smart transmitter programming and maintenance, Instrument back-up, trouble shooting, projects research and development and quality control. Electronic circuit board repair to component level.

Thirty six years experience with emphasis on instrumentation draughting, including supervision, draughting of pneumatic and electrical control systems, shutdown logic systems, fire and gas systems, radar systems including ‘Real Time’ computer programming and design of radar displays and interfacing of hardware and software relating to the above.
